Five Years Ago Today.

Five Years ago today, I was starting a new chapter in my life. A chapter with the title of Mrs. instead of Miss.

Two nights ago I stood in the card aisle at Target reading each and every “anniversary,” “romance,” and “love” card they had. My eyes were teary. Somehow every card exactly described my marriage and my love for my husband while simultaneously not even coming close to describing my love. Each different profession of love I read affected me.  Maybe I was just being hormonal, but all the love I feel for my husband came bursting forth with every sappy line I read. Eventually I decided on two cards, one serious, short, sweet and to the point and one silly sarcastic card.

I am married to my best friend. A man that will happily climb into the kitchen cupboards, or show off his jump roping skills to make me laugh. Somehow Luke deals with my over planning and sensitivity to cold, along with my crazy sweet tooth and my crazy sleep habits. I married a man that balances me out, keeps me sane and always makes me feel like the center of his world.

Picking one card would not have been possible because there are so many things all wrapped up in my love for my husband. Friendship and laughter, sarcasm and honesty, hope and understanding are all a part of this beautiful union and they just don’t make sappy romantic cards with a sarcastic twist.

Five years ago today I wore a white dress and vowed in front of my family and friends to love Luke for the rest of my life. Five years later I’m wearing a different white dress and going out for Indian food with the man I still promise to love forever. I’ll hold his hand and probably steal food off his plate and be thankful for every day we’ve had so far and every day we have to look forward to.
