Celebrating 3(!) Part 5…

It’s trains, trains, trains around here!

So far we have talked about train party Cupcakes, treats and sweets, decorations, and the birthday girl herself. I know that’s a lot of bases covered but there is one more important thing to share.

Favors.

Train party favors to be exact.

I never really thought I would be a mom who would give out favors at her child’s birthday parties, but that was before I became a mom who got to plan birthday parties for my sweet girl.

Figuring out favors was fun. I’m sort of geeky like that.

The brainstorm went something like this

Bingo. We have a winner.

So Maddy and I unwrapped a bazillion red, yellow, green and blue crayons. Melted a bazillion red, yellow, green, and blue crayons and then molded all those crayons into train shapes using large chocolate molds.On a side note I am in love with melting crayons. It is very therapeutic.

Sticking to the theme colors for our party I found buckets to hold the goodies for each child and filled them with little colored notepads, pencils, bubbles, Thomas stickers and our homemade train crayons. I don’t want to brag or anything but they were adorable.

Train Party Entertainment

For a party aimed at three-year-olds I just couldn’t bring myself to plan games. I like free play. Well, free play to an extent. Call me crazy but I wasn’t up for half a dozen, or more, three-year-olds running wild through my entire house.

To keep things semi-calm, yet also very casual and in line with our train theme we brought Maddy’s train table and trains down into the living room and set out a pop-up train play tent for kids to play in also. Or Maddy’s uncle. Whatever.

Bringing the train tent and train table to the main floor of the house kept everyone in basically the same area which meant that parents could snack on food, chat and hang out without feeling like they had to chase their kids around and I felt like I could relax and chat with people all while having the whole party easily in view at the same time.

The train table coupled with the train tent and the cookie decorating kept everyone entertained, I mean everyone even adults, and meant I didn’t have to plan any games like “pin the smokestack on the train” or “red light green light” or “Truck Truck Train.” Which I ‘m sure are all fun games, but honestly require too much, um well, work.

Now that I have shared my train party successes with you all I plan to take a nap until next September. Okay probably not. My brain is already churning out ideas for possible party themes for next year.

I have a problem. I just can’t help myself. I’m most likely obsessive compulsive or something equally over-doer.

Well, Happy 3rd Birthday Maddy, hopefully we will all make it to your 4th birthday in one piece and we can party it up again!
