Tissue Paper Clothespin Bats

We at the Evolving Mommy house like to do crafts and activities and holidays provide us with ample reason to pull out the glue and googly eyes.

Last year, for Halloween, Maddy and her best buddy Boo made adorable footprint ghost cards to send to unsuspecting family members. This year we decided to change things up and tackle bats. These lovely ladies are 3 so Tissue Paper and Clothes Pin Bats are perfect for a preschooler, with a little help from an adult. Have no fear these bats can also be suitable for older children as well. Just give them more free reign over the crayons and scissors.

These tissue paper bats were quick easy and to make and lots of fun for the girls to play with afterward. Even I have gotten in on the fun by pinning our little bat random places throughout the house to see if Maddy notices. Who knew a clothespin and some tissue paper could be so fun?

Tissue Paper Bat Supplies:

• black tissue paper, cut into about a 10 x 7 inch rectangle
• clothespins
• black marker or paint
• white crayon
• googly eyes
• glue stick
• black construction paper
• scissors

Step 1. Starting on a long side make 1-inch accordion style folds in the tissue paper.

Step 2. Cut the ends of the tissue paper to make points on both ends. This will make the wings look webbed.

Step 3. Using a black marker color the clothespin black. The clothes pin will become the bats body so make sure to cover it with black. You can also use black paint to cover the clothespin in black.

Step 4. Using the white crayon draw a bat head on a small piece of black construction paper. Then cut out the head. To make this activity more age appropriate for an older child have the child draw and cut out their own bat head.

Step 5. Glue googly eyes on to the bat’s head. Using the white crayon draw a mouth and little fangs.

Step 6. Glue the bat’s head onto the clothespin.

Step 7. Squeeze the clothespin and insert the tissue paper wings into the clothespin so that the wings can be fanned out behind the bats face.

Step 8. Fly your bats all over the living room. Well, at least that is what these adorable girls did.
