Bread Challenge Week 32
The other night I was less than prepared for dinner. I had thawed chicken but what I was going to do with the chicken I had no idea. I pulled out one of my Indian food cookbooks and selected a recipe with a list of ingredients all living in my kitchen. Well that was easy enough. Or was it? I still needed a side of some sort so I set Luke to work making the main course and flipping through my Betty Crocker Baking for Today cookbook I found a recipe for Green Onion-Sesame Flatbreads. Score. Flatbreads are usually, in my experience, quick and simple. Quick and simple bread is just what I needed.
This recipe calls for sesame oil and it carry’s a wonderful aroma as it cooks. The six Green Onion-Sesame Flatbreads come together in about 40 minutes from start to finish which with prep time and cooking dinner was just right. The ingredient list is short and the number of servings are perfect for dinner with guests.
We enjoyed this bread although I am not a huge fan of fried breads. Actually I really like fried breads, but I try not to. I really, really try not to. Bread made with white flour and fried isn’t exactly what you would call healthy, but it is tasty… in moderation. I am not sure how often I will make this bread in the future if at all but if you like the flavors of sesame and green onion and the texture of slightly chewy puffed flatbreads this is a good bread for you. Maybe I’ll play around with the recipe and use some whole wheat flour.
