Cute Candy Corn Footprint Cards

Footprint and handprint crafts are not only fun for kids they are fun keepsakes for adults. Ideas for hand and footprint crafts seem to come to me in the fall. Spooky Footprint Ghost Greeting Cards, Colorful Fall Handprint Wreath, and cute Handprint Bats to name a few . Well, it’s fall so it’s obviously the right time of year for a new idea to come to me. Here is where the idea for cute little candy corn footprints comes in.

Now that I have two sets of cute little toes and fingers in my house it’s like double the paint and printing fun! We got to work and made candy corn footprint greeting cards for the girl’s grandparents. You know, the two sets of grandparents, two sets of great-grandparents, Two additional great-grandmas, and a great-great-grandma. They are lucky to have so many wonderful grandparents, even if it means trying to keep paint covered wiggly toes still enough to stamp seven separate cards!  I am sure they will love these cards. But, shhhh don’t tell them I spilled the beans to you early –  it’s still a secret – these cards are in the mail on their way to them now.

Supplies needed to make Candy Corn Footprint Cards

• Orange, yellow, and white paint
• 3 paintbrushes (we used foam brushes)
• Black construction paper, one for each card to plan to make
• Blank white cards and envelopes (we used some we had on hand. The cards measured 6 1/2 in x 5 in and the envelopes were 7 1/4 in x 5 1/4)
• Glue stick
• Thin orange ribbon cut into 8 inch lengths
• Small cellophane plastic treat bags, trimmed down to about 4 inches tall
• Markers

Step 1. Fold the construction paper in half making it into a short fat card. This will help guide you as too where the footprints should go, although you could skip down to step 4 and trim the construction paper down before you stamp those cute little toes on the paper.

Step 2. Paint Stripes of white, yellow and orange across the bottom of the foot. Yellow across the upper third including the toes. Orange across the middle third. White across the bottom third including the heel.

Step 3. Stamp the painted foot with the heel pointing towards the top of the card and the toes pointing towards the bottom. Repeat steps 1, 2 and 3 on as many cards as you are making.

Step 4. Once the footprints are dried trim the black construction paper cards down so they can fit in the pre-made envelopes. We trimmed the black card down to 7 in tall x 5 1/8 inches wide. This made them just larger than the blank white card stock but small enough to fit in the pre-made envelopes. In order to trim the black cards to a size that fits in the envelope you may need to refold it.

Step 5. Punch two holes on the top right side of the blank white cards.

Step 6. Fold the treat bags in half so that the top (open end) and the bottom are lined up. The baggies end up about 2 inches tall when folded. Then line up the folded bag with the holes in the white card. Mark where you want the holes in your bag and then cut or punch the holes. This will make it so that the holes are in the middle of the cellophane bags when they are unfolded and open. Doing the holes this way helps hide crooked cutting lines from when the bag was trimmed, helps to hold the candy in place, and makes the treat bags a nice size for the finished card.

Step 7. Add 4 – or-more, it’s really up to you – candy corns into the treat bag.

Refold the top of the bag over so the holes line up and then lay the treat bag on the card so the holes in the card and bag line up.

Then from the back of the card thread the orange ribbon through the holes of both the card and treat bag. The result is ribbon sticking out in both directions. Tie the Ribbon into a double knot to hold the treat bag in place.

Step 8. Glue the white card into the black card. Liquid glue is fine, but it will give the cards a rippled look where the glue is used, a glue stick will give you much better, and smoother results.

Step 9. Write a fun message inside the card. Using Black, orange and yellow markers we wrote “Happy Halloween from two little sweets.”
