I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the things that I want to do in life.
I’m only 26 but I’ve realized that it is too easy to fall into daily routines and let time pass you by. I don’t want to lose track of time and not experience all the things I want to see and do before it is too late.
A life list is in order. In other words I’m starting a bucket list. I’m a list writer so I’m surprised I haven’t officially done this yet. Instead of making a list up until now all I’ve done is make metal lists and then promptly file the list in the back of my brain to be ignored.
Not anymore. There is so much to see, eat, touch and do in this world and I don’t want to let life pass me by. I may or may not be having a quarter-life crisis. Really I may or may not have been having a quarter life crisis on and off for the last few years. Maybe. Maybe not, but probably yes.
So here are the first few entries in my list:
1. Learn to speak another language fluently.
2. Run a Marathon.
3. Live in a different country for at least 6 months.
4. Make a Souffle.
5. Learn to cook Indian food like a pro.
6. Learn how to salsa dance.
7. Ride in a hot air balloon.
8. Visit Italy, Greece and Spain.
9. Own a home outright.
10. Visit the Great Wall of China.
It’s a start and I feel better having gotten this much written down, it’s like these are actual goals now.
So what are some of the things you MUST do in you lifetime?

Both Nate and I made these lists not long after we started dated. I haven’t looked at in awhile but it is interesting to me that some things I put on it orginally I have to interest in doing now. Like I always thought I wanted to learn to scuba dive but after not really enjoying snorkeling last time I was in Hawaii (it was fun but I don’t like the feeling of not being able to breath regularly) I don’t think trying snorkeling is a good goal for me.
Off the top of my head:
Learn to sew
Learn to play the piano
Learn to speak Spanish fluently
Travel to Europe
Skydive (although I am afraid of heights so I won’t be doing this anytime soon)
Run a marathon
Own a house outright is something I hadn’t thought of adding but think I will because it is definitely a goal.
I am interested to see other people’s lists.
Ooh, Michelle lets relearn Spanish and talk to each other while we run marathons together! 🙂
A marathon used to be on my list, but after completing a half, I realize I much prefer the halfs to the idea of a whole. Going out for a 19 mile training run (training mu butt) is not really something I warm up to easily.
I actually created a list when I was about 23… would be interesting to see how much I’ve done.
So, right now, at 33, here are some things that would be on my list:
1. Write a book
2. Travel through Ireland via B&Bs
3. Visit Alaska
4. Learn old recipes from my grandmother
5. Cut hair like a pro
There are a lot of things that were on my list that I’ve already completed: Fallen in love, learn to crochet and knit are some off the top of my head.
Great post!
That is a good little list. I have done some of those things and others are things I would love to do. Some I can think of off the top of my head include:
1. Do a triathalon
2. Travel to Greece
3. Come up with a few things that I can cook really well that are my “specialities” that everyone wants when we have them over
4. Learn to sew (I am working on this. I made my first dress last week, but I still don’t feel like I know what I am doing)
5. Become a good gardener
I like your goal of becoming a good gardener. I want to be one of those people who just “gets” gardening like it is second nature. I guess with each year I learn more and more.
