I haven’t been to the gym since last Friday.
I get all amped up and go to the gym 4 or 5 times a week for a few weeks just as I’m really getting into a groove my “tired” “exhausted” week comes around and I can barely drag myself out of bed after 9 hours of sleep let alone 7.
So this morning I took advantage of Luke working from home and instead of rushing out the door to the gym early in the morning to make it home before Maddy wakes up and he has to go to work I took my time getting out of bed and then went for a run in my neighborhood and the neighborhoods in my area.
I’ve been running on the treadmill at the gym pretty consistently for the past few months and I have seen in my distance and times increase but I haven’t run outside, unless you count the one time that I pushed Maddy in the double jog stroller to the park and realized that women who push their children in jog strollers while they run all the time are crazy and strong and crazy strong. So this morning was my first run on pavement in a long time. It went well, except for the wind. I hate wind. Wind makes my nose run and my ears get cold and pop like crazy. Wind makes my hands cold and my eyes dry. Most of all running head on into 10 mile an hour winds and gusts is not fun at all.
But even with the wind I could hear birds chirping and see yards filled with tulips and pansys and that was much nicer than seeing the overly sweaty guy with too much cologne on the treadmill next to me.
I’m not sure if I’ll make a big change and switch to running outside all the time but I think I’m going to incorporate it into my workouts more.
I’m happy with my little 2.5 mile run outside this morning. I feel good. Starting the day off at a more relaxed pace and still accomplishing the things you want to tends to have that affect.
Next up a 5k in June.
One step at a time to crossing that marathon off my list.

Wooo! To me that seems super impressive!
Nice job. I think running outside is way more entertaining that running inside and provides me with more mental stimulation than a treadmill. My husband and I ran outside this morning and while I agree with you about the wind, I do think it’s a great way to start the day.
Especially with a husband that likes to pinch my butt while running. 😉
Good luck with your 5K training!

Training for a 5K sounds great. I love having a goal to work towards!
And the wind… I once declared war on the wind when I was training for a half marathon. outside running is a lot different that dreadmill running!
I ran outside for the first time ever on Monday. It was windy and I found myself walking when coming up against the wind. It was a revelation to me to be out in the cool air at 5 in the morning I saw bunnies and robins and listened to the world coming to life. I also thought i would incorporate this in to my work out routine, especially those mornings when i want an extra half hour in bed BUT 2 days later my ankles of all things are killing me. Maybe the streets are too harsh for my old joints. I will try again but if the ankle pain continues I will be back to running on the treadmill.
I love running outside. But I can’t seem to do half the distance that I can do on the treadmill. Must be the wind as well. And the hills. And the bad pacing.
And no t.v.

That TV does wonders for me.
Good luck with the 5K in June. I think I just need to register for a 5K soon to get myself motivated. I have been running with the jogging stroller with Gaige once or twice a week and, man, that kid is heavy! I hope you do run a marathon someday. I did a couple of them before I had children but now I feel like I don’t have the time or energy to train.

I ran with Maddy in the jogging stroller once and it was killer. Toddlers are heavy!
Good luck training for your 5K. I love running outside and since I started about a month ago I never run on the treadmill anymore. I do find running with my training group keeps me motivated and makes the distance seem easy. Running alone is a lot harder for me. Tonight I am running alone in the rain, we’ll see how that goes. Nate has to to work late the rest of the week and I have to get two training runs in before Saturday and we have rain forecast all week so you do what you’ve got to do.
I was hoping to get better shoes for Mother’s Day so I can run on pavement but looks like I’ll have to go out and get them myself! I love running on the high school track though–it’s surface is so comfortable!
