Counting with Pumpkin Seeds

We have been taking fall and trying to use it to the fullest for learning, crafting and fun around here. I decided to take some extra pumpkin seeds and a few pumpkins and turn it into a couple of activities to keep the girls busy recently. In the process I also got to draw silly pumpkins with my favorite writing utensil. A sharpie. It’s the little things that keep me happy.

Pumpkin Seed Counting Supplies:

• Paper
• Marker
• Crayons
• Glue
• Pumpkin Seeds leftover from pumpkin carving, pie making or snacking.

To start off our activity we took a detour and first counted tiny pumpkins and read the book Five Silly Pumpkins. The girls took turns counting the pumpkin, rearranging the pumpkins and sorting the pumpkins. Doing this was a quick way to fill up more time with our activity and expand on the pumpkin theme and counting.

Step one: Draw pumpkins on a sheet of paper and number them.The number of pumpkins you do is up to you. We did six because I felt six pumpkins worked for out size paper.

Step Two: Count and color the pumpkins in.

Step three: Count out pumpkin seeds for each pumpkin. The first pumpkin gets one seed, the second gets two, the third gets three, and so on.

Step four: Glue the seeds down onto the pumpkins. We started out using glue sticks and quickly figured out that liquid glue did a much better job of holding the pumpkin seeds down.
