Luke was out of town on business recently. And the trip seemed like forever. Forever. While this was not Luke’s longest business trip away it’s safe to say Maddy and I were itching for his arrival. His flight back to Colorado had him making it home late. So with hours to kill before Maddy’s bedtime and even more hours to kill before Luke was to make his grand entrance Maddy and I set to work on preparing a proper homemade welcome home sign for our favorite guy.
A a handful of crafts sticks – or 59- a little paint, glue and a long sheet of easel paper topped off with glitter glue managed to keep us busy and pass the time. Of course there was glitter glue. You can’t have a welcome home sign without glitter glue. To a four-year-old, glitter glue means love.
Hours after Maddy had gone to bed and I had fallen asleep on the couch Luke finally walked through our front door. I think he was happily surprised by his welcome, even if Maddy and I weren’t jumping up and down and cheering like we had talked about doing. I think he felt pretty loved. Which is good. Because he is. He really really is.
