27 times.
That is the number of times Maddy listened to Lily’s Purple Plastic Purse, by Kevin Henkes, this morning.Okay I’m not positive it was 27 times but that is what it seemed like.
We checked out this audio book during our trip to the library yesterday. We had read the book before and I thought she would enjoying hearing the story read to her by someone other than mom. Kevin Henkes is one of my favorite children’s authors. I love his characters. I love his humor. I love his spot on stories filled with lessons on growing up.
She “read” Lily’s Purple Plastic Purse with her baby jaguar Leelo pointing out pictures and laughing about parts she thought humorous. She repeated lines. She soaked up the story and asked thoughtful questions about what she was hearing.
I love that she loves books. She would sit in my lap for hours reading piles of books if she could. I love that checking out an audio book has opened up a whole new world to her. A world where she can be her independent self all while experiencing a well written story, colorful and entertaining images and the feel of pages in front of her.
Surprisingly I still love this story even though it was on nonstop repeat this morning. I can’t help but love a story that kept Madeline asking for me to start the story again instead of asking to watch another episode of Diego and in front of it’s pages instead of a TV screen.
