Yesterday morning Madeline padded into our room a few minutes before 7:00a.m. Luke sleepily scooted over and Madeline happily climbed into bed with her arms full of stuffed animals to snuggle with Mommy and Daddy. We all laid there half asleep enjoying the calm, not quite ready to be awake. Before too long Delaney began to stir making sweet happy noises from her crib. Luke rolled from bed and made his way to Delaney’s room, changed her diaper and came back to our bed happy baby in tow. Madeline snuggled up close to me to make room for Delaney and Daddy. Once we were all settled under the covers – Luke and I acting as the parenthesis curving around our girls holding them in, Madeline smothering Delaney with ‘good mornings’, kisses, ‘I love yous,’ and hugs, and Delaney pure joy seeping from her every pore – Luke looked over their heads at me and did that thing that both surprises me and comforts me every time. As if he can read my every thought he took the words right out of mouth.
“This is what I’m thankful for right here.”
I couldn’t agree more, Luke. I couldn’t agree more.
There are too many moments in my day to day when I take for granted the amazing gifts I have in my life. I’m ashamed to say it. I get overwhelmed with dishes and laundry, errands and bills and I forget to be thankful. Sometimes the noise drowns out the beauty.
These girls and this guy. All the beauty. I am so thankful.
I hope your Thanksgiving was full to the brim with thankfulness.
