With an almost four-year-old in the house easy activities and crafts keep me sane. Easy activities that children can do on their own or with minimal parental guidance are winners in my book. Every parent has moments where they are looking to keep their child busy without using the TV to mindlessly distract them.
Tie-Dye Paper is easy, inexpensive and fun. A winner all around.
Supplies needed to make Tie-Dye Paper:
- white coffee filters
- washable markers
- spray bottle filled with water
Step 1: Using the markers color a coffee filter. Free coloring, abstract design or pictures are fine. The more solid blocks of color the better.
Step 2: Holding the spray bottle about 12-18 inches over the colored coffee filter lightly spray the paper a few times. You want the paper to be completely wet but not dripping. Using our particular spray bottle we decided spraying 3 times was about perfect. The colors will bleed together as the water spreads through the thin coffee filter.
Step 3: Let the tie-dye paper lay flat until dry.
Step 4: Use paper to write notes on, for decoration, to make paper flowers or anything your creative mind comes up with.

What a fun project! We have to try it. It’s very similar to a spin art activity we have at Spangler http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/experiment/00000201
Great idea!
