High Gas Price Amnesia (HGPA), that is. Have you already forgotten the pain you would feel at the pump while you watched the numbers roll higher and higher while filling up your car? Do you remember the denial you felt when the weekly total to fill your small compact car was more than it cost to buy a bike to ride instead?
While driving Luke to work yesterday I spotted a gas station with regular unleaded priced at $1.91 a gallon. Yes, you read that right; one dollar and ninety one cents; or 191 pennies or; 3 quarters, 7 dimes, 10 nickles, and 6 pennies.
I was blown away. I never thought that gas would ever go below $3 a gallon again, when it hit $2.56 I thought there was not way that it would go below $2 and now here we are 9 cents below $2. I instantly started thinking about what we could do with all the “extra” money we will save.
So of course I looked over at Luke and said “Wow, we are going to be able to put so much money in savings for when gas goes back up!” I bet you weren’t expecting that were ya?! Well, I don’t have HGPA, I fully remember the high prices of a month ago.
Like some of you we live on a strict budget and have a set limit we can spend on gas every month. Because of these lower gas prices, I feel like I have won the lottery. There is now wiggle room in our budget. Yeah I could go out and spend, spend, spend that extra money but I like to know that we have a cushion and that if something were to happen we might have a chance of making it through.
Here is what Luke and I have been wondering: Are American’s going to get HGPA and go back to driving constantly and not thinking twice about refueling and spending the extra money in their budgets on other things?
So I want to know what are you doing with your “extra” money. Are you saving it or spending it? Are you driving more, less or the same as when it was almost $4 a gallon?
