So the other day Monkey and I were at the mall for Playgroup. During the summer our playgroup meets at a local park but during the winter we usually meet at the local mall’s play place…the kids like it, the mommy’s get to have a walk around after the kids finish playing and best of all its free!
I am always amazed at some of the parents and children in the play place. There always seems to be at least one parent talking away on their cell phone paying no attention to the fact that their child is pushing every other kid off the equipment. There are the helicopter parents who stay glued to their child’s side not allowing them to really play. There are parents that get mad at you when you ask their child to stop knocking your kid over. There are even parents who (gasp!) ignore the size/age rules and let their 10 and 12 year olds reek havoc on the little ones.
This time we encountered a different kind of mom altogether. This mom sat and watched her child continue to play even though her clothes were falling off. What kind of mom sits there while her 4 year old’s pants (and underwear) are falling down past her bottom?
I.Am. Not. Exaggerating… nor am I joking
This little girl behind was literally hanging out for all to see. Of course there were many reasons this caught my attention and bothered me but here are my main two problems with this:
1. I feel like I live in a decent, safe town but who knows what kind of pervs are hanging out that the mall watching this 4 year old practically run around pants-less?
2. I am not a germ-a-phobe in most cases but there is something about Monkey playing on the same play equipment and surfaces that this little girl was rubbing her bare bottom all over. Yuck!
Eventually this mom did come to her senses and help her daughter pull up her pants, but it took her far too long in my opinion. Um, Hello Earth to Mom…Your kids half naked and sliding down the slide!
So I am wondering what would you have done in this situation? Would you have said something? Would you have run over to Gymboree and bought this little girl a belt so that this would not happen again? Would you Laugh it off and think nothing of it?
