As a mom I’m not a huge fan of candy canes because all Maddy wants to do is eat them. From the minute she wakes up she starts asking for one with swift repeats of her request coming in rapid fire succession for the rest of the day.
Now that we have turned some candy canes into her very favorite, and current obsession, Christmas character she is doing a lot less begging to eat them and a lot more crafting. Score one for Mama!
Reindeer candy canes are a cute way to turn an ordinary Christmas treat into an adorable holiday decoration. I should mention they are simple too.
Supplies needed:
- Candy Canes
- Brown pipe cleaners, cut in half if using average sized candy canes. One half for each reindeer.
- Googly eyes
- Red and/or brown pom poms
- Glue
- Ribbon
Step 1: Wrap and twist pipe cleaner around curve of candy cane. ends should stick up to form antlers.
Step 2: Glue googly eyes onto curve of candy cane below antlers.
Step 3: Glue pom pom onto candy cane near the tip, under the eyes.
Step 4: Tie a small bow into the candy cane behind the reindeer face to make a cute reindeer collar with a bow.
Step 5: Hang candy cane reindeer on the Christmas tree, tie them on gifts or include them in cookie plates and gift baskets for a cute touch.

This is a fun craft. We’ve definitely done it around our house. I am trying to decide what we want to make for my mom from the kids and the kids teachers this weekend. I guess sitting in my bed in my jammies isn’t helping.
