It’s no secret I like to let kiddos build their own lunch. They have fun. I have fun. They more of it and they try new things or things they might normally scoff at. There is another benifit to letting kids make assemble their own lunch. By picking and choosing what goes on their plate along with the quantities of the different options they start to learn portions for themselves. Instead of relying on what I think Madeline should eat. She has the chance to decide for herself and begin to learn how to make decisions about her food for herself in the process.
What’s on the plate: Pita “Pizza” With a Twist
- Whole wheat pita, spread with homemade white bean dip then topped with shredded carrots, diced green bell peppers, tomato, corn and tuna.
- Chunks of watermelon and cantaloupe.
