Friday night Maddy went to bed at about 10:15. Which is about an hour and 45 minutes later than her regularly scheduled bedtime. We were having fun with Nana and Umpa, Luke’s parents, and Maddy’s standing date with her bed was pushed back to accommodate the fun. Dinner out at a favorite Chinese restaurant. Followed by frozen yogurt at a local shop where you serve yourself and top it to your hearts desire. A stroll through a walking mall coupled with a stop in a store filled to the brim with accessories just begging for Maddy, and Mommy, to try on. Then to finish off the night, closing down the library like the rockstars we are.
We have learned not to throw all of our hope behind the possibility of her sleeping in. It rarely happens when we hope for it. Actually it rarely happens, period. Even with the later bedtime the night before Saturday morning started a full hour earlier than usual. Oy!
Maddy and her tired mommy set out to cross things off our to do list and have some fun while her tired daddy labored to get some leftover work from the workweek done.We visited a garden center where Maddy potted a plant to give to me and shop for a gift for Mémé, my mom, and bought cupcakes from a cupcake truck. After naptime we headed for some Mother’s Day fun at Mémé and Papa’s house. A barbecue, gifts, cupcakes, playing with the dogs and jumping on the trampoline. Followed by a bath and clean jammies for the ride home.
On the way home I jokingly offered Maddy $25 bucks is she would just stay in her bed until 8:00. I was tired. Luke jokingly offered her a pillow pet. She’s been saving her money for one so he was hoping to bribe an extra hour of sleep for Mom and Dad out of her. It goes without saying he was tired too. Of course even with the second post 10:00pm bedtime in a row we fully expected a second 6:00 am wake up to follow. We’re realists. We’ve lived. We’ve learned. We’ve missed out on countless opportunities to sleep in at the hands of our sweet girl.
Cut to this morning when I rolled over to look at the clock only to find the numbers seven five five staring back at me. Whoa. Did our outright bribes work? I hoped out of bed and heading for the living room couch grabbed my laptop thinking I might be able to get 10 minutes of Facebook, Twitter, or email time before the telltale thump thump thumpthumpthump of her running to exit her room.

Not until almost 9:20 did I hear an unusual morning time page for me coming from sleeping beauties room.
Flowers, extra sleep this morning followed by extra sweet sleepyhead cuddles and loves and homecooked breakfast by my two favorite chefs.
Now that is what I call a happy Mother’s Day to me.
I wonder if we owe her a pillow pet and some cold hard cash for a perfect start to my Sunday? It couldn’t be that we simply wore her out could it?
Either way it’s a sweet surprise. Either way I’ll take it!
One thing is for sure. The love I feel for this little girl is infinite and I’m so glad to be her mom.
Happy Mother’s day Mama’s! May your day be filled with many cuddles, loves and sweet surprises.

Awww! What a great story. 🙂 Glad you enjoyed your Mother’s Day sleep in.
Holy moly! 9:20???? That has never happened in our house. That is great! Sure cute pictures of your little girl too!
I LOVE that last picture!
She is saving for a pillow pet? Too cute! Phoenix had to have 2 of them. I refused to buy one because I think they’re silly so she saved her money. Then her birthday came and she asked for so few things I caved and got her 2nd one. Good thing too since Bumble, the first pillow pet had a severe injury several months ago and is losing stuffing and waiting to be sewn. Luckily she still has Ladybug to fill. You never know when you’ll need, “it’s a pillow! it’s a pet! it’s a pillow pet” Stupid marketing directly to kids!
