If you’ve been to Las Vegas you most likely have a few stories. I have a few memorable stories from previous Vegas vacations myself. I didn’t expect anything overly exciting from this trip but this past weekend was no different. I came home with a whole new set of Vegas stories that don’t involving dancing in clubs or sleeping half the day away.
I honestly did not anticipate how fun it would be to hang out in the pool everyday with my family. Generally the pool is not my favorite place to be. It’s amazing what a cute new swim suit, an adorable girl in a pink swim suit and water wings and my family, grandparents, parents and sister included, slashing and having fun can do for my feelings towards the pool.
I was not ready for the pure excitement Maddy would feel at seeing a “real” castle. The first time she saw it all lit up she gasped and exclaimed “Oh, it’s so beautiful!” I saw a casino, she saw a beautiful castle with high towers that Rapunzel might live in. It was a nice reminder to me to see the magic that surrounds us, even in the places we have already deemed boring.
The look of awe plastered on her face while taking in gondoliers singing and steering their boats along a canal within a mall within a casino. It just didn’t seem all that magical to me, but to Maddy it was. Another reminder from my girl to look past the cheesiness my jaded adult eyes see.
Fake pirate boats? To me? Meh. To Maddy? Crazy cool. And really huge pirate boats in the middle of the Las Vegas Desert are crazy cool.
Giant fish tanks and huge sculptures of flying horses were a sight to behold for Maddy’s three year old eyes. So what if it is in a mall right?
On our last night of the trip we took Maddy to my favorite place on the Las Vegas Strip, the Bellagio. Magical fountains, gardens and blown glass flowers adorning the ceiling. All magical, even to my eyes.
Las Vegas is generally a place of over the top cheesiness. Who would have thought that a trip to Sin City of all places would have given me a lesson on seeing beauty, magic and G rated entertainment?
A trip to remember for sure.

I love Bellagio! Fountains, flowers, my favorite hotel too.
Though what I remember from our trip was, “oh crap, did Chris just spit inside” Fun times!
My personal concern with taking my kids to Vegas since we don’t have any family there is the stupid people on the street handing out the fliers, cards, etc. with mostly naked women on them. I guess I went to Vegas as a kid and only remember all the cool stuff not any of the X rated stuff that was above my head.
Glad you have a nice time. Nate was talking about the two of us going again since the last time we went was in 2006. I guess a lot of the AB guys take weekend trips there. It is definitely affordable and I’ve always had a lot of fun.
I’d love to take my kids to Vegas! It’s the half way point between Denver and my in laws in California.
I LOVE VEGAS! It’s exhausting as an adult, but I could see how amazing it would be for a kiddo! So many great things to see and do there. How fun!
